Fr. Vasanthaseelan, sustanied serious injuries in shelling on Thursday 23rd April, in Valaignarmadam area and his left leg was amputed and needed further urgent medical treatment.
We have received the informationl that Fr. Vasanthaseelan has been transferred today to Colombo General Hospital for further medical treatment.
According to the information received from Rev. Fr. Bennet from Vavuniya, the left leg of the Father below the knee has been amputated and right leg is also wounded and he has sustained a wound in the stomach area. He had undergone another surgery at the hospital and Vavuniya Hospital staff did their best to give the medical treatment he needed,
According to the news received from Very Rev. Fr. Justin, the Vicar General of the Jaffna Diocese, Fr. Vasanthaseelan had been wounded when a shell had fallen into St. Anthony’s Church at Valaignarmadam. Fr. Vasanthaseelan had been serving the displaced people in Vanni together with other Fathers and Sisters, providing humanitarian assistance coordinating with Caritas Sri Lanka.
In the meantime Fr. James Pathinathan is undergoing medical treatment at Padaviya Hospital and will be transferred to Colombo General Hospital. Fr. James Pathinathan, the Parish Priest of Mullaitive, sustanied injuries in Valaignarmadam on Wednesday 22nd April 2009.
