Catholic Charities USA (a Caritas member in the USA) has reached out to the Bishop of Pago Pago and will support his diocesan efforts to provide humanitarian relief for the victims of this disaster.
Catholic Charities USA has sent an immediate $10,000 grant to the Diocese of Samoa-Pago Pago.
The Catholic Charities USA Disaster Response Operations team has arrived. At the present time, various Diocese and Catholic Social Services building facilities are providing shelter for both victims and relief workers.
“The preliminary reports and assessments that we have seen to date indicate a huge need for help with basic human services and provisions,” said Rev. Larry Snyder, President and CEO of Catholic Charities USA.
Since Saturday, CCUSA teams have visited all of the affected villages and delivered more than 1,000 bottles of clean water, along with snacks and small foods to hold disaster victims over.
On Monday, CCUSA staff visited the remaining affected villages to deliver small amounts of water and snacks and have delivered two or three shipments to some visited on previous days.
