More aid efforts underway

We have just finished our meeting with the Bishops and the Nuncio in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The national Caritas and CRS/Caritas USA were both present. We identified 25 distribution points for food in Port-au-Prince and two in Jachmel. We will be traveling to parishes to speak with priests to begin as soon as possible the distribution of food and water.

CRS/Caritas USA has 10,000 kits with food for seven days for 2000 people. We discussed plans for Caritas Germany to send a truck over the weekend with further aid from the Dominican Republic. The Bishops Conference will begin to give official notices to the people about what the Catholic Church will be doing.

Funerals will take place on Saturday 23 January.

Recien hemos terminado la reunión con los Obispos y el Nuncio. Estuvieon presentes, la Caritas Nacional y CRS/Haiti a traves de Karel Zelenka y Donald Reilly.. e pudo avanzar en la identificación de 25 puntos de distribución de alimentos en Puerto Principe y 2 en la Diocesis de Jachmel.

Esta tarde estaremos visitando distintos lugares para hablar con los sacerdotes y comenzar tan pronto sea posible con la distribución de los aliemntos y el agua.

CRS ha conseguido 10,000 kits de comida para 7 días; que servirán para alrededeor de 2000 familias. Se habla de un camión que envia Caritas Alemania qu estará llegando el fin de semana.

La Conferencia comenzará a dar comunicados a la población para dar a conocer las acciones que la Iglesia Católica estará llevando a cabo.

El sábado 23 se llevarán a cabo los funerales del arzobispo de forma temporal mentras sus restos puedan ser trasladados a la Catedral una vez que se rehabilite.
