Winter will soon be approaching and the temperature will drop below -30 degrees. What will these people’s lives be like then? Their yurts were washed away by a landslide following incessant rain. Not only were they made homeless, they also lost their possessions and had to go to live in a displaced camp far from their homes.
Poor urban planning and a lack of a good evacuation system has contributed to the loss of their homes. The Government has given them a resettlement area on condition they would be helped to rebuild the yurts.
In the evening when the Caritas team went to visit the resettlement areas people were distressed. The wind was already bitingly cold. A colleague said, “Imagine what it will be like in December, January, February…” People are settled in the steppes and it is almost wilderness. Continue reading
